Cinnamon (Cimmamomum Zeylanicum/C.Verum) is native to Sri Lanka and one of the oldest spices in the world. Cinnamon comes from a small, lauren like Evergreen Tree. The spice is actually the bark of the tree that is peeled. Once peeled, the outer bark is removed leaving the inner bark to be rolled into a stick. Cinnamon Vera comes in a 4 rusty brown semi light tan stick with a slightly sweet and fragrant Cinnamon flavor. Cinnamon has long been held as in important cooking ingredient as well as a medicinal herb, and is one of the oldest spices in the world. Today, the distilled essential oils in Cinnamon are used in anti diarrhea formulas and sweeteners in cough syrups.
Use in puddings, cakes, cookies, breads, drinks, curries, meat and game, stews, vegetables, and stewed fruits. Cinnamon is an ingredient in Chinese five spice powder and the Indian spice, garam masala.
